The Sophia Centre for Relational Health and Complex Care:
The Sophia Centre was founded in memory of Sophia, whose courage, brilliance, and love continue to inspire a commitment to more compassionate and equitable care for children, youth, and families living with complex health conditions.
As a research institute, the Centre explores how relationships, between caregivers, families, clinicians, and systems, shape experiences of care. Our work brings together caregivers, researchers, and communities to learn from lived experience and to co-create new models of understanding, practice, and policy.
Grounded in relational, intersectional, and gender-inclusive approaches, we seek to illuminate and strengthen the human connections at the heart of care. We study how compassion, belonging, and justice can guide clinical practice and system design ensuring that every family feels seen, heard, and supported in their care journey.
Through research, education, and collaboration, the Sophia Centre strives to transform the culture of complex care honouring Sophia’s legacy by helping to build a world where compassion and equity are foundational to health.
